Austin Sather… The Bassist who is a maniac (and my best friend), wrote a review of the EHX Clone Theory for me, he owns it and loves it, so here’s what he has to say about it (with a little bit of editing from me)…
“There are a lot of chorus pedals out there, but the clone theory stands out among many. It has only three knobs, so this is a pedal that a monkey can control and know what he is doing. The first knob is the mode knob, the second is the depth knob, and the third is the rate knob. The mode knob chooses between chorus 1, chorus 2, and vibrato. Chorus 1 is a setting that Electro-Harmonix said is the “Perfect Chorus” depth. So you cannot control depth with this setting on, but you can control the rate. Chorus 2 is the setting that lets you control your own depth and rate, so you can set the depth to whatever you like and no one is going to do anything about it. The Vibrato is basically a chorus effect with no chorus, so it is like a tremolo but instead of controlling volume it controls pitch. So you will have a shifting pitch, going up and down… in other words, a vibrato. The depth knob controls the amount of chorus that is on the sound, and the rate knob controls the speed of the effect.

So, now that the features are out of the way, we can move onto what you want to hear, does it rock? This pedal creates some of the most glorious chorus I’ve heard. And I love how fully customizable it is. The extremes of this pedal are pretty much not needed, because it sounds ridiculous, but it’s always fun to freak out your band mates with a crazy spacey sound that could kill a horse. EHX hit the “perfect chorus” pretty well. So I use chorus 1 the most. The only problem I have with this pedal is…. the hissing. Clone Theory Pedals new and old are famous for amazing chorus and their noisiness. Plug this baby in and you will get some hissing, so DO NOT put this in front of any noise booster (distortion, pre amp, bass boost, anything). I would put a delay and reverb behind it, and that’s it, unless you have a noise removal pedal which would be nice (I would recommend this). But, I would prefer this pedal over any other chorus pedal. So, yet again, Electro- Harmonix has stupefied us with sick awesomeness. So Does it Rock? OH YA BABY! Like an old man writhing in pain after takin’ a tumble down the stairs and breakin’ his hip!”

Great review! I really love this pedal too, I use it on guitar and keyboards and it sounds so good!
