Tracktion 2 by Mackie

by Seth Weber on August 3, 2009

Since the day I got my first guitar I wanted to record myself and be able to hear what my playing sounded like, I first recorded on my tape player for a while. Then I wanted something I could put on a CD, so I rigged up some chords that didn’t even fit together to barely put a signal into my computer and recorded it in windows movie maker. Pretty rediculous I know, but my dad saw my love for recording even in this dorky way and in a few months had done a lot of research and found the perfect program for us. Mackie Tracktion 2. I was so excited when we finally got it all installed, I started recording right away, I had no idea what I was doing, our first recording consisting of 2 guitar parts, drums, and my horrible vocal together sounded terrible, but eventually we learned how to use it and bought a good interface. (Tascam US-1641)
Now here is where the review of the product actually begins, It truely is increadibly easy to use, it really is one screen for the whole recording process and it puts out great sounds if you use it right. For example, my band Modern Dissent recorded our whole first CD with it and we were complimented by the guy who did our mastering that it was the best basement recording studio sound he had heard in a long time.

Sadly Tracktion 2 is no longer sold in any of the main online music gear stores, but Mackie’s new software, Tracktion 3 is available all over the place! So refer to my review of Mackie Tracktion 3
