Tascam US-1641 USB Interface

by Seth Weber on August 13, 2009

After using the PreSonus Firebox for a few years in my basement “studio” we wanted more channels, so we decided to go with the Tascam US-1641 USB Interface. I enjoyed using this interface, and have gotten some great sounds out of it, although it has its faults, so basically I’m just gonna skip to the Positives and Negatives part:

The Positives

  • 8 XLR inputs (all phantom power capable)
  • 2 instrument cable (1/4 inch) inputs
  • Zero-latency hardware monitoring
  • USB 2.0
  • Up to 96kHz/24-bit resolution

The Negatives

  • Not very user friendly monitoring and headphone monitoring system. (Depending partly on what recording program you are using)
  • I have had probems and heard of some others who have problems using this device with Macs.
