PreSonus FireBox Interface

by Seth Weber on August 17, 2009

The first audio interface that I ever used, it served me well as my main interface for over 2 years, and I still have it, it’s sitting right next to me as I write this review.  My favorite thing about this interface is the monitoring and headphone monitoring system, it has a digital mixer on the screen of your computer that allows you very easily to control things in the monitors, great system!

The front panel is also cool because the XLR inputs are also the 1/4 inch inputs, as you can see below.

The Positives

  • Great monitoring system
  • Solid metal casing
  • Wide frequency response (10 – 50kHz)
  • Large Dynamic Range
  • 24-bit/96kHz
  • Low noise high-headroom microphone/instrument preamplifiers with 48V phantom power

The Negatives

  • Only 2 mic inputs

The Debatables

  • This is Firewire, some say firewire is better, some say USB 2.0 is better (at least for low quantity input interfaces), I believe that for this small of an interface, it really doesn’t matter, and I know from experience that it sounds and works great!

So, Does it Rock? Yeah! It rocks, if you need a small interface for recording in 24-bit, this is probably the one for you!

Unfortunately this Item isn’t sold New from online dealers anymore, But I’m sure you can find them used for good prices. Check Amazon or Ebay or Craigslist
